Research Services Manager

Remote or office based (Milan office)

ICON plc is looking for a Research Services Manager to join our collaborative team environment.

You will report to the EMEA director and join a team of Research Service Managers who are leading a team of dedicated, highly trained Clinical Research Associates and Site Management Associates.

The Research Service team supports late phase and observational studies globally, in multiple languages and cultures. Each associate is fit-for-purpose per sponsor/study to deliver continuous site support for greater

study efficiency. CRAs and SMA integrate their function across studies and enhances the traditional monitoring approach. The SMA works collaboratively on teams to supplement the traditional CRA on-site monitoring in a wide variety of study designs and phases, from country specific or monocentric studies to large multi-center trials. Always while keeping patient safety paramount and enhancing site engagement.

Overview of the role

As a Manager, the employee is expected to recognize the importance of and create a culture of process improvement with a focus on streamlining our processes, adding value to our business and meeting client needs.

Ensure appropriate issue escalation of findings related to the quality of performance of monitoring or site management activities.

Responibilities

  • Provide feedback on the development and implementation of formal CRA and RMA training tools and presentations
  • Implement agreed corrective actions and/or further training as required Conduct timely performance reviews and appraisals for assigned RS staff. Ensure clear goals are set
  • Liaise with internal and external clients on RS related matters, as necessary
  • Oversee implementation of study monitoring plans/metrics as appropriate
  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Actively participate in regular meetings with Project Managers to discuss project strengths and challenges associated with recruitment, site communications and site responsiveness
  • Provide coaching / mentorship to the Research Services Group Managers; provides strategic guidance for professional development of RS staff
  • Contributes to proposal development and participate in bid defences, as needed
  • Participate in business development activities, as appropriate
  • Lead by example; inspire others to perform high quality work

To Succeed you will need

  • Significant experience within Research Services
  • Proven leadership skills and demonstable experience of having coached/mentored junior staff members
  • Knowledgeable with the specific Clinical Trial legislation (Italian)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in Italian and English
  • Ability to travel (approximately 5% - 10%) domestic and/or international
  • Ability to manage own workload with respect to project scope, timelines and quality
